U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the democratic president candidate, returned to Wisconsin on September 1, 2008 to headline a “Rally for America’s Workers in Milwaukee at the Marcus Amphitheater. Obama was joined by Wisconsin politicians including Gov. Jim Doyle.

Former Republican Governor of Wisconsin, Tommy Thompson, held a conference call to discuss the nomination of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama as the democratic presidential candidate on August 28, 2008.

The McCain Campaign opened a “Victory Center” office in Kenosha on August 26, 2008 with an open house event. Republican Party of Wisconsin Chairman Reince Priebus, Senate Minority Leader Sen. Scott Fitzgerald and Assembly Majority Leader Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald attended the event.

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the democratic presidential candidate, visited the Rod and Gun Park on the shores of Half Moon Lake in Eau Claire on August 24, 2008. Obama was joined by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold.

McCain Campaign volunteers in Wisconsin took part in a national “Super Saturday” volunteering event on August 23, 2008. WisconsinEye followed a group of volunteers at a McCain Campaign office in Fitchburg. Volunteers made phone calls and went door to door in the community to help the campaign.

Former Missouri U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan hosted a town hall on women and family issues in Madison on August 22, 2008 for the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. Carnahan was joined by U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Middleton, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, and Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development Roberta Gassman. Rep. Terese Berceau, D-Madison, also joined the forum held at an Obama Campaign field office.

Thousands of area residents gathered Wednesday evening for the opening of the Obama campaign headquarters, located on 4th and Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee. Speakers included Governor Jim Doyle, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, State Representative Sheila Kochren, and others. The headquarters is now the largest Obama campaign office in the state.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) held a news conference on nuclear energy with elected officials and members of the UW staff and administration at the Mechanical Engineering Building on the UW-Madison campus. Gov. Pawlenty also campaigned for presidential candidate, Senator John McCain.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin hosted a news conference on Senator Barack Obama's tax plan for America. Baldwin said Senator Obama will cut taxes by $1,000 per working family and eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000. Baldwin added that Senator Obama will not raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year.

The presidential campaign of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, held an election night party at the Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company in Madison on February 19 to watch the results from the Wisconsin Primary. Gov. Jim Doyle and wife Jessica Doyle attended the event with a number of state democratic legislators. Obama defeated U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, with 58 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 41 percent. Doyle and Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made brief results after the results were announced.

The office was housed in the basement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union at 8033 Excelsior Drive.

Presidential candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Arkansas held a campaign rally in Madison at the Concourse Hotel on February 14, 2008. He focused on the differences between himself and Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, as it relates to conservative issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and taxes. After the rally Huckabee answered questions from the media at a news conference in another room in the Concourse.

AARP Wisconsin organized a panel discussion of local pundits to explore Wisconsin’s political landscape during the February primary season. Judy Davidoff (The Capital Times), John Powell (former Wisconsin Public Radio reporter and host for WisconsinEye) and Jeff Mayers (WisPolitics.com) gathered at the Concourse Hotel in Madison to discuss the topic in front of an audience.

Ms. Clinton's visit, made in promotion of her mother's bid for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, occurred 8 days before Wisconsin's primary elections.

With Wisconsin's primary contest a little more than a week away, College Democrats and College Republicans from the University of Wisconsin-Madison gathered at the Memorial Union for a debate on the issues which are expected to be relevant in the 2008 Presidential Election. Hosted and moderated by The Badger Herald, the University's student newspaper, the event took place on February 11.
