Thousands of area residents gathered Wednesday evening for the opening of the Obama campaign headquarters, located on 4th and Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee. Speakers included Governor Jim Doyle, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, State Representative Sheila Kochren, and others. The headquarters is now the largest Obama campaign office in the state.

Barack Obama, D-Illinois, held an election night party at the Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company in Madison on February 19 to watch the results from the Wisconsin Primary. Gov. Jim Doyle and wife Jessica Doyle attended the event with a number of state democratic legislators. Obama defeated U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, with 58 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 41 percent. Doyle and Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made brief results after the results were announced.
